Bergman one day, Antonioni the next! Death must have decided, since substance is dead, to clear out some of the older useless thinkers of film and let the flash hepster boomboomscream sorts have the filmic field*.

89 years for Bergman! 94 years for Antonioni! Not bad runs. I wonder if A. was sitting around muttering "must ... outlive ... that ... Bergman ... bassss .... terd ..."**

Anyone of those mid-century cinema gods left? Maybe fate will have mercy and off Tarantino to round out the Must Die In Threes thing, and spare us any more greats going.

* "I know it's cartoonish gangsters and zombies, but ... but it's a metaphor! A METAPHOR FOR SOCIETY! With lots of clipped winkyknowing dialogue. And a retro audience's-popculture-soaked-youth-referencing soundtrack, used darrrrrkly."
"Metaphor? Why do you need the gangsters? Why not just do a movie about society?"
"I ...I ... oh SHUT UP. Gotta get to the Viper Club and be a bad boy. I'm chairing a retrospective of Pepto-Bismol commercials as underestimated cinematic art, then decking a photographer. Aren't I precious?"

**Reminds me of when Genet outlived Simone de Bouvoir by one day. You know the petulant little snot was just waiting for her to go first.
